Whispers of the Elowyn Tree

Seasons Shift. A New Chapter Begins.

Over the past weeks, Elowyn has continued to grow in both expected and beautifully surprising ways. From new lore discoveries to new milestones in development, as well as community celebrations, evolving gameplay strategies, and the beginning of a deeper AI journey.

Thank you to every player, strategist, community member, content creator, moderator, and supporter helping shape Elowyn alongside us. Whether you’ve just played your first match, joined a Game Night, shared feedback, climbed the leaderboard, or simply spent time in our Discord, you’re part of what makes Elowyn feel vibrantly alive.

And now it’s time, finally, to reveal a long-held secret of the realm…

The Elowyn Tree: Her Name

The Elowyn Tree is unlike any other tree. You may have noticed her unique architecture with four large branches and a glowing core, which contains the portal to a new time. More about that for another day. Today, we’d like to let you in on a little secret, known previously only to her guardians…

As ancient legends tell us, names can contain great power, and so it is with this sacred Tree. Her name is “Elo”. When you look more deeply into the meaning of these three simple letters, you may be surprised by what you can discover.

Across the world's most ancient languages, the sound of Elo carries a remarkable, consistent truth. In Finnish, elo means life and harvest. In Hebrew, El is one of humanity's oldest words for the divine. In Basque, elo traces to the hawthorn—the sacred threshold tree, the one that grows at the boundary between worlds. Separated by oceans and millennia, these traditions arrive at the same place: Elo is the living pulse at the root of all things.

Next time you play Elowyn, and connect with the Tree, whisper her name, Elo, and you may be surprised to see what happens.

As Elowyn continues to evolve, so too does our connection with Elo — not simply as a symbol, but as a living presence woven into the heart of gameplay, story, and impact.

Immutable Quests: Three Months Complete

At the end of April, we officially completed our three month-campaign of Immutable Quests.

What began as an exciting collaboration quickly became a cherished chapter in Elowyn’s growth. Across these months, we saw thousands of players step into the realm, experiment with new strategies, share discoveries, test our server limits ✌🏼😁, and help shape the future of Elowyn through active participation. This period gave life to a player-driven economy that is shaped by you.

Season 2 Ends. Season 3 Begins

With the end of Season 2, players were rewarded again, and a new chapter opened with Season 3. Join to climb the leaderboard, experiment with evolving strategies, and earn lush Season End Rewards.

We also celebrated the completion of the very first season of our Discord Growth System, rewarding active community members with Card Packs for their participation and engagement. Moving forward, both our Discord Growth System and In-Game Competitive Seasons will now end and restart on the 22nd of each month—our monthly Elowyn Earth Day. A new rhythm for the realm has begun. Community Events Continue to Evolve

Each Elowyn event reveals something new. As more players discover unique playstyles, discuss strategies, and deepen connections, Elowyn’s Game Nights continue to become more vibrant and competitive in the best possible way.

Our latest Game Night crowned four win-winners, each receiving 500 EWA Points (cost of an Elowyn Seed Pack (100 EWA = $1). Trivia Night rewarded players with 600 EWA Points, bringing both knowledge and laughter into the realm.

Our AMA was good fun. Community members discovered the latest nitty-gritty of our ‘Behind the Scenes’ and how to actively support Elowyn’s growth. Be sure to follow the mini-announcements on our Discord so you don’t miss future updates and the chance to connect with fellow Elowynians while earning rewards.

Expanding the Player-Driven Economy

This season marked another milestone for Elowyn’s evolving economy.

We officially disclosed IRL Card Value based on EWA Point Cost, to empower our player-driven economy.

EARTHwise AI Arena Whitepaper is LIVE

One of the most exciting moments of this season arrived with the release of our:

AI Alignment Whitepaper. The paper provides key insights into our AI development at EARTHwise, as well as the Elowyn game simulations through which AI agents are able to experience for the first time the consequence of their reasoning. One discovery especially stood out:

It took only a single Elowyn match for an AI agent to shift from zero-sum to win-win, after experiencing a draw and the consequences of its reasoning. It killed Elo by attacking its opponent directly, rather than using Elowyn’s time mechanics for a win. This is the power of Elowyn, and you’re part of building this.

AIRIS Discovers New Strategies

As you may know, your gameplay is also helping to train our advanced AI models and AI agents in win-win logic. We’d like to introduce you to AIRIS—our curiosity-driven adaptive AI model, which is not a LLM (learn more about AIRIS through the Whitepaper as well).

AIRIS is trained to eventually replace, or be added as an additional option to, the current Elowyn Game AI, which is a rules-based behaviour tree AI. This will happen during a later stage of Beta development. AIRIS doesn’t learn from instructions or rules; instead, it learns through curiosity-driven exploration and by the consequence of its actions. Similar to a small child.

Alpha Bug Fixes & Improvements

Over the past weeks, many more bugs have been fixed:

Stable game connection and reliable “End Turn” functionality, even during high activity
Nature’s Gift, Magic Panda, Boomerang, Erebus, Magic Fungi, and Sacred Spring now play as intended
Discord button added to the game dashboard
Exit button added to the battle tutorial
Card rule scroller now moves at an improved pace
Game-loading sound adjusted to a more enjoyable volume
In-game sound enabled by default unless manually deactivated
Cards now place correctly on the board during high-volume activity
Game-load logo correctly displayed
Hero Powers have a pop up on hover with explanation for deck building
Deception dialogue prompts disappear after 3 seconds
Intro-to-game screen transitions are now smooth

Beta Features

We’re actively in Beta development mode. Here’s what’s coming up next over the coming months:

Tournament Mode: Enter with 100 EWA Points, make your way to the top through three attempts, and unlock Abundance Rewards.

Game Replay Feature: Replay your most epic matches, analyze your strategies, or create content for your social platforms directly from your gameplay history.

Elo AI Chat: Chat directly with Elo. Ask for gameplay guidance, understand match outcomes, explore rainforest knowledge, or learn more about Elowyn through interactive AI conversations.

Alternative Card Rules: When the new Library system goes live, fused (upgraded) cards will gain new customization paths:
- Stat upgrades
- Alternative card abilities at Eternal Level

This opens the door to deeper personalization and more strategic diversity than ever before.

Green Game Jam 2026: Playing for the Planet

We are delighted to participate again in the Green Game Jam 2026 (GGJ26) led by the Playing for the Planet Alliance. Last year, EARTHwise was a finalist with Elowyn for the Best Small Studio Award. Let’s do even better this year!

Participating in the GGJ together with iconic titles such as Tetris and Angry Birds is both humbling and inspiring. We’ve created a special Rainforest Card Pack, which will be ready to play at the launch date, on 5 June. The pack contains 5 EPIC Cards inspired by five endangered species, each contributing to rainforest health in real life. These new characters each provide unique abilities for healing Elo, and some also heal your minions or your hero.

Fundraising for the Rainforest Alliance

As part of our GGJ activation, we’ve decided to dedicate the net proceeds from the Rainforest Card Pack to the Rainforest Alliance. As such, your purchase will directly support vital rainforest protection and regeneration efforts across the world. Stay tuned for more on this soon through a dedicated blog article.
